Judith Humenick • Founder/Director
Originally from Western Canada, Judith graduated from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, majoring in flute and voice. A music educator, adjudicator and director of award winning junior high school bands for more than 10 years in Saskatoon, followed by 3 years as Special Assistant to the Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Arts Board and Faculty Member of the Saskatchewan School of the Arts, she was active in the jazz community in both Saskatoon and Regina, before relocating to Ottawa in 1988.
Judith is founder and ExecutiveDirector/Producer JazzWorks Canada, an Ottawa based jazz education organization whose mandate is to raise awareness of jazz music as an art form, to promote the development of jazz performance through educational and collaborative activities and performances that involve adult amateur, talented youth and professional musicians, creative networking and the building of performance ensembles (small groups/jazz combos) among Ottawa jazz musicians. A member of ORMTA (Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association) for over 25 years, Judith works with students of all ages, children to adults-from beginners to professionals, tailoring study programs to individual needs and has guided students through conservatory examinations and university entrance auditions.
